SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team split a doubleheader at Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon. In the opener,
Andrew Cossetti's 11
th-inning home run pushed the Hawks past the Pirates before Seton Hall held off a late Hawk rally in the nightcap.
GAME 1: Saint Joseph's 3, Seton Hall 2 (11 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (12-8) got on the board in the top of the second inning. Singles by Cossetti,
Brendan Hueth, and
Brandon Drapeau loaded the bases for
Liam Bendo, who singled home a pair to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
• The Pirates got one back in the bottom of the inning, but it would be zeroes across the board for both teams until the ninth, when the hosts scored on an error with two outs to send the game to extra innings.
• In the top of the 11
th, Cossetti went deep for the 11
th time this season to give the Hawks the lead before
Ryan Devine came on to notch his first save of the season with a perfect bottom half of the inning.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

Ian McCole got the start and was outstanding for Saint Joseph's, allowing a run on four hits while fanning two in eight innings. Hunter Waldis started for Seton Hall and did not factor into the decision either, tossing six and a third innings and allowing two runs on seven hits.

Matt McShane allowed an unearned run on two hits in two innings to earn the win, while Devine retired all three batters he faced for the save.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Seton Hall (2-18) opened the scoring on a wild pitch in the third before an RBI double by
Ryan Cesarini tied the game in the fourth.
• The Pirates went ahead with a three-spot in the fifth before adding a singleton in the seventh to extend the lead to 5-1.
• The Hawks chipped away with a
Cam Walker RBI groundout in the eighth and a sacrifice fly in the ninth by Bendo, but Christopher Shine stranded the tying run on base to end the ballgame.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Joe Cinnella earned the win for Seton Hall, allowing a run on six hits in seven innings.
Luke Smith allowed five runs, three of them earned, on seven hits in seven innings to take his first defeat of the season.
