MERION STATION, Pa. – A late rally led Delaware past Saint Joseph's, 8-7, on Tuesday afternoon at Smithson Field in the quarterfinals of the Liberty Bell Classic.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Delaware (12-10) started the scoring with a run in the first, but the Hawks took the lead with a pair in the bottom of the inning. After
Conlan Wall and
Jake Artz were hit by pitches to lead off the game, a walk to
Nate Thomas and a wild pitch tied the score at 1-1.Â
Andrew Cossetti followed with a walk before
Brendan Hueth singled home a run to put SJU ahead.
Â
• Saint Joseph's (12-10) tacked on two more in the third when a bases-loaded double by
Brandon Drapeau plated a pair.
Â
• Hueth and Drapeau hit back-to-back bases-loaded singles in the fourth before an RBI groundout by
Liam Bendo extended the lead to 7-1.
Â
• The Blue Hens scored three in the fifth to cut the margin to three and ultimately went ahead on an error and a three-run home run by J.J. Freeman.
Â
• The Hawks loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but Bryce Greenly induced a groundout to end the ballgame.
Â
