WINTER HAVEN, Fla – The University of the Sciences softball team opened its season in the Sunshine State on Friday, facing two teams that were already at the tail-end of their respective spring break trips.
The Devils dropped contests to Findlay, 9-1 in six innings, and defending NCAA Tournament participant Bridgeport, 5-0.
Findlay
Diane Torregrossa's RBI groundout in the top of the third cut a 2-0 deficit in half, but USciences would strand two runners in scoring position before Findlay answered with a three-run bottom-half.
The Oilers (8-5) added three runs in the fifth before ending the game early with one more in the sixth.
Gabrielle Simms (two walks) and Danielle Jones (1-for-2 with a walk) both reached based twice for the Devils.
Bridgeport
Bridgeport (9-4) plated two in top of the first as it led throughout.
