Big Hits, Strong Pitching Lead Baseball to 11-4 Win Over Fairfield

MERION STATION, Pa. – The bats came alive for the second day in a row as the Saint Joseph's baseball team pounded out 16 hits en route to an 11-4 win over Fairfield in Sunday's series finale at Smithson Field.  Mike Falco tossed six strong innings on the mound as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (6-4) started Sunday's game the same way it started Saturday's: with a Brett Callahan leadoff home run.  Three batters later, Andrew Cossetti followed with a solo shot, his second first-inning home run in as many days as well, to double the early lead.

Paul Kokol, making his first collegiate start, notched his first career hit in the second inning and then went deep for the first time as a Hawk in the fourth, a three-run shot to give the Hawks a 5-0 lead.

• Fairfield (3-6) got on the board via a Mike Caruso sacrifice fly in the sixth, but the Hawks hung a five-spot on the board to expand the lead.

• Callahan doubled off the fence in right to bring home a run before Jake Artz beat out an infield single to score another and make it 7-1.  Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Cossetti singled home two more to push the advantage to 9-1.  Brendan Hueth then followed with an RBI single to cap off the inning.

• The Stags got one back on a sacrifice fly by Dean Ferrara in the seventh, but a fielder's choice by Hueth in the eighth restored the nine-run lead.

• The visitors closed out the scoring with a pair of two-out runs in the ninth.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Falco allowed a single run on three hits while striking out three in six innings to earn the victory.  Colin McVeigh took the loss for Fairfield, ceding five runs on six hits in three and a third innings.

• Six Hawks recorded multiple hits in the game, led by Callahan and Max Hitman's three apiece.  Cossetti and Kokol provided the power with three runs batted in each, while Callahan and Hueth each added a pair.

• Sunday's game already marks the third time this season the Hawks have recorded 16 or more hits; they notched 16 last Sunday at UMBC and had a season-high 20 against Quinnipiac on February 19.
