Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Chris Brown turned in his second career quality start, but the USciences baseball team could not get its bats going in a 3-0 loss to Winona State on Wednesday morning.
The junior worked around seven hits to allow just one earned run in his six innings, which matched a career-high. The junior also matched a career-best with six strikeouts.
Winona State opened the scoring with an unearned run in the second, before Brown's lone blemish came after a two-out walk led to a run following back-to-back singles in the fourth.
The Warriors closed out the scoring with a home run in the seventh.
University of the Sciences did threaten in a couple of at-bats, including in the first when Eddie Parry singled and Evan Sinclair walked to put two runners on with one away.
The Devils also had two on with one out in the fourth, following a Hunter Parish hit-by-pitch and Frank Pollock base on balls, to no avail.
Later, Chris Anderson led off the eighth with a hit-by-pitch and Parish singled with one out in the ninth to reach base for a second time, but USciences could never advance a runner to third base.
The Devils close out their spring break trip tomorrow, when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan at 9 a.m.
