MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team dominated singles play on Monday en route to a 5-2 win over Coppin State at the SJU Tennis Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Coppin State opened the scoring early after winning the final two doubles flights.Â
Amanda Nava and
Stow Weiss were winners in the first flight for the Hawks.
• Saint Joseph's took control once singles play got underway.Â
Sophia Amato won her third-flight match to level the score before Nava and
Emily Elliott won in the first and second, respectively, to push the Hawks to the brink of victory.
• The visitors claimed a win in the fifth flight, but
Paige Conrad rolled in her sixth flight match to clinch the victory before
Ireland Amato win her fifth-flight tilt to finish the day.
HAWK TALK
"A very satisfying victory, as the squad all participated and pulled the win out together," head coach
Ian Crookenden said. "I'm very proud of the fight and grit from our singles lineup, which battled a talented but erratic team. It was the mental fortitude of our Hawks that gutted out this result to get us back in the win column."
