Early Six-Run Innings Lead Nationally-Ranked Millersville to Sweep of Baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILADELPHIA – Early six-run innings by Millersville put the USciences baseball team in holes it could not quite dig out of, as the nationally-ranked Marauders swept the Devils, 12-5 and 9-6, on Tuesday afternoon at Richie Ashburn Field.

Game Two

Ryan Hess' five innings of scoreless relief, which tied a career-high, allowed USciences to bring the tying run to the plate in its final at-bat after the Devils had trailed by six twice.

Down 9-6, Hunter Parish walked with one away and Josh Yang followed with a single, but Millersville was able to record the final two outs.

Hess allowed just four hits in his five frames, including none in his first two innings.

Eddie Parry's two-run homer in the sixth, his second in three games, got the Devils within three after they had trailed 6-0 and 9-3, following the Marauders scoring six in the first and three more in the second on a combined two hits.

His five home runs this year are tied with teammate Evan Sinclair for third in the program's recorded single-season history (since 2005), while his 11 career home runs are now fifth all-time. His 35 RBI this year are notably now second in the program's single-season annals behind, also behind Sinclair.

Frank Pollock scored twice, including on Yang's bases-loaded walk in the fifth.

University of the Sciences would strand the baes loaded afterwards though, three of its 10 for the contest, compared to Millersville's five. Both team had just six hits.

Joe Duffy reached base three times with a hit and two base on balls, while Nick Cerelli also walked twice.

Both Cerelli and Pollock were involved in a three-run first that answered the Marauders six runs, with Cerelli scoring on a passed ball before Pollock singled home a run and came around to score on Vince Cammisa's double.

Game One

University of the Sciences actually opened the scoring as Duffy led off with a walk and Cerelli followed with a single, with the two coming around on Pollock's two-out single and then Parish's bases-loaded walk.

The first two outs in the top of the second were recorded, only to have seven consecutive Marauders reach, leading to six runs on five hits.

Parry got USciences back within three twice, on a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-3 in the second and then an RBI groundout to cancel out a Millersville run in the  fourth.

The score was still 7-4 after Eli Agostini threw a scoreless fifth in his first career pitching appearance, but Millersville put the game away with a five-run sixth.

Cerelli recorded his second career four-hit game with a perfect game one that included two doubles, while Pollock also had multiple hits. Cerelli's 11 doubles this season are tied for third in the program's recorded single-season history.

University of the Sciences once again left 10 runners on though, compared to the Marauders' six.

Duffy notably scored three runs as he walked twice. The senior ended the day third in program history with 99 career runs, as well as tied for seventh all-time with 65 career base on balls.  His 35 runs this year are now tied atop the program's recorded single-season annals.
