MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team pounded out 14 hits and hung double digits on the scoreboard for the sixth time in seven games en route to a 13-9 win over Delaware at Smithson Field on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Blue Hens scored a pair in the first inning, but the Hawks answered on a single by
Andrew Cossetti in the bottom of the frame. With the hit, the senior catcher reached base safely for the 35th consecutive game, setting a new program record.
• Saint Joseph's (17-13) put a crooked number on the board in the second, scoring four times on a wild pitch, an RBI groundout by
Justin Igoe, and a two-run single by
Jake Artz.
• UD got one back in the third, but an RBI single by Artz in the fourth restored-the three-run lead.
• Delaware (19-11) drew level in the fifth, but the tie would be short-lived as the Hawks scored six times in the bottom of the inning. A sacrifice fly from
Max Hitman put SJU back in front before a ground-rule double off the bat of
Luca Trigiani made it an 8-6 game.
•
Brett Callahan then beat out an infield single to score another run and after an infield single by Artz loaded the bases, Cossetti cleared them with a three-run double to the gap in right center to extend the lead to 12-6.
• The visitors would score twice more in the sixth, but
Cam Walker reached on an error in the bottom of the inning that allowed
Liam Bendo to score and make it a 13-8 game before a Blue Hens run in the eighth closed out the scoring.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Cossetti eclipsed the previous best on-base streak of 34 achieved by Stefan Kancylarz during the 2014 and 2015 seasons and Deon Stafford, Jr., in 2016 and 2017.

• Cossetti's four RBI were a game-high, while Artz drove in three runs and went 3-for-5. Callahan and Trigiani both scored three times for SJU.
•
