PHILADELPHIA – Borna Markusic and Eli Gan-Dy scored the final six points of a tiebreaker to seal the doubles point with a third flight triumph, but despite a second straight singles win by Pedro Ramos, the USciences men's tennis team came up just short in a 5-2 defeat to Dominican on Saturday afternoon at the Hamlin Center.
The Chargers won the first doubles match, but Jack Kosiorowski and Oscar Serra kept the point alive with a 7-5 decision at the second flight for their team-best sixth victory together this season.
That set the stage for Markusic and Gan-Dy, who after trailing 1-4 in a tiebreaker, came back to seal the point with their first-ever victory together.
Markusic was also ahead 7-5, 4-5 at his No. 4 singles match before being forced to retire.
That unfortunately summed up the Devils' luck as Serra and Brandon Gildea were both defeated in three sets, at the first and sixth flight.
Ramos did however win his second straight No. 5 singles match in three sets, prevailing in first and third set tiebreakers 7-4 and 7-3.
University of the Sciences plays its final league road match at Chestnut Hill on Tuesday.
