RICHMOND, Va. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team opened its weekend series at VCU Friday night, falling to the Rams by a 7-2 score.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team broke through in the first two innings, but VCU (21-15 overall, 6-4 Atlantic 10) got on the board with two outs in the third on a two-run single by Logan Amiss.
• The Rams increased their lead in the fifth, scoring five times.
• Saint Joseph's (20-15 overall, 6-4 Atlantic 10) got on the board with two in the eighth on an RBI single by
Andrew Cossetti and a fielder's choice by
Brandon Drapeau, but the Hawks would draw no closer.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Maddison Furman earned the win for VCU, while
Ian McCole took the loss for SJU.
• Nick Torres and
Sam Davies combined for 3.2 innings of shutout relief to finish off the game, striking out five between them without giving up a hit.

Conlan Wall led the Hawks with two hits, while
Brendan Hueth was aboard three times with a hit and two walks.
