RICHMOND, Va. – A ninth-inning charge wasn't enough as the Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to VCU, 13-9, at The Diamond on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• VCU (22-15 overall, 7-4 Atlantic 10) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a three-run frame.
•
Liam Bendo got Saint Joseph's (20-16 overall, 6-5 Atlantic 10) on the board in the fourth; after consecutive singles by
Nate Thomas and
Andrew Cossetti and a walk to
Brendan Hueth, Bendo ripped a single to center to score two and make it a 3-2 game.
• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Rams would score three in the fifth and three in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-2.
•
Conlan Wall brought home
Luca Trigiani with a single in the top half of the seventh, but the hosts posted a four-spot in the bottom of the inning and took a 13-3 lead into the ninth.

Cam Walker led off the ninth with a double before scoring on a double by
Justin Igoe to make it a 13-4 game.Â
Max Hitman followed with an RBI single and then came around to score when
Ryan Cesarini reached on an error.
• After a walk to
Adam Fine three batters later,
Travis Rinker drove in a pair with a double before Walker came to the plate a second time in the frame and plated a run with a single to make it a 13-9 game, but SJU would get no closer.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Tyler Davis earned the win for VCU, while
Luke Smith took the loss for the Hawks.
• Cossetti, Walker, and Wall notched two hits apiece for the Hawks, while Bendo and Rinker recorded a pair of RBI each.
