MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Davidson, 6-2, on Thursday afternoon in the opener of a three-game series between the two teams at Smithson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Davidson (38-9 overall, 16-3 Atlantic 10) started the scoring in the top of the second on a double steal; John Hosmer swiped second while Jacob Hinderleider stole home to ut the visitors on top.
• Saint Joseph's (25-20 overall, 9-9 Atlantic 10) equalized in the third when
Nate Thomas hit a two-out single, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a double by
Andrew Cossetti.
• The Wildcats went back on top on a single by Jake Wilhoit in the fourth before a solo home run by Parker Nolan in the fifth made it a 3-1 game. The visitors would add two more on a pair of bases-loaded walks in the sixth.
• The Hawks got one back in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by
Liam Bendo and
Brett Callahan, but Nolan would double in a run in the top of the eighth to restore the four-run margin.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Nolan DeVos allowed a run on five hits and four walks in five innings to earn the win, while
Ian McCole took the loss after allowing two runs on seven hits in four innings. Bennett Flynn notched the save with two and a third shutout innings of relief.
• Cossetti's RBI was his 57th of the season, setting a new program record. The previous mark was set by Jason Hamilton in 1991.
• Nolan went 4-for-4 for the Wildcats, hitting for the cycle with a single, a double, a triple, and a home run in the game.
