DAVIDSON, N.C. – One big inning made the difference on Wednesday afternoon as the Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to VCU, 8-4, on the second day of the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship at Davidson's Wilson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• VCU (38-18) took the lead in the top of the first on a solo home run by Tyler Locklear.

• The Rams extended the lead with a five-spot in the fourth.

• Saint Joseph's (29-24) got on the board in the sixth on a solo home run by
Nate Thomas and added another in the seventh after an RBI double by
Luca Trigiani.

• VCU answered in the eighth on a two-run home run by Ben Nippolt, but the Hawks got both back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI groundout by
Andrew Cossetti and a wild pitch that plated
Conlan Wall.

• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, that would be it for the scoring.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Maddison Furman tossed five shutout innings, allowing four hits, to earn the win and improve to 6-0.Â
Ian McCole fell to 3-6 after allowing six runs on six hits in three and a third innings.

• Hueth notched his 24
th double of the season in the fourth inning, tying a program single-season record. Thomas also tied a single-season record, as the home run was his 18
th of the year.

UP NEXT
The Hawks will face Saint Louis in an elimination game at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday; game time has been moved up due to the threat of impending inclement weather later in the day.
