MERION STATION, Pa. – The 12th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team put in a dominant performance against previously-unbeaten Lock Haven on Friday afternoon, cruising to a 2-0 win at Ellen Ryan Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (5-3 overall, 2-0 Atlantic 10) carried the play throughout the first quarter, but the Hawks only managed a pair of shots and the game was scoreless after the first 15 minutes.
• Midway through the second quarter, the Hawks cashed in on one of their five first-half penalty corners as
Celeste Smits tipped a ball from
Manu Ghigliotti past LHU goalkeeper Kelsey Felix for a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
• Ghigliotti doubled the lead in the middle of the third on a pass across the circle from
Noa Schuringa.
• The Hawks saw out the win from there, dominating the run of play and preventing the Bald Eagles from maintaining any useful possession in the attacking half of the field.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The Hawks held Lock Haven (7-1 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) without a shot in the contest in handing the Bald Eagles their first defeat of the season. SJU also matched a season-high by earning 13 penalty corners without conceding one.
• Felix made six saves for Lock Haven, while neither
Robin Bleekemolen nor
