PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's
Cameron Brown and
Erik Reynolds II combined for 39 points as the Hawks downed rival La Salle, 71-59, on Monday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena.
How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's grabbed the lead early as the Hawks jumped out to a 12-0 lead, capped by a layup by
Ejike Obinna just over four minutes into play.
• Using a 6-0 run, La Salle cut St. Joe's lead to 23-16 at 9:29.
• Ahead 32-22, the Hawks used a 7-2 spurt to open a 39-24 advantage on a three-pointer by
Louis Bleechmore with 1:04 left in the half.
• Behind a 9-0 run, Saint Joseph's opened a 50-32 lead on a three-pointer by Brown at 13:24.
• Down 60-41, La Salle scored 10 straight points to get within 60-51 on a pair of free throws by Daeshon Shepherd with 4:46 to play.
• Saint Joseph's responded with back-to-back buckets from Reynolds II and
Christian Winborne to push ahead 64-41, and allowed the Explorers to get no closer than 11 points in the final minutes.

• Brown finished the afternoon 6-12 from the field, 4-7 from behind the arc and 4-4 from the foul line for a team-high 20 points.
• Monday was Brown's fifth 20-point performance of the season.
• Reynolds II was 7-11 overall from the floor, 4-6 from three-point range, and 1-2 at the line for 19 points, and added five rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

Lynn Greer III handed out a game-high six assists, grabbed eight rebounds and scored 12 points.
•
Ejike Obinna was 4-4 from the field and 1-1 from the foul line for nine points.
• Obinna and
Kacper Klaczek each had nine rebounds apiece to lead St. Joe's.
• The Hawks shot 51 percent (26-51) from the field and connected on 11-22 three-pointers.
• At the other end, Saint Joseph's held La Salle to just 29.5 percent (18-61) from the field, and 22.2 percent (6-27) from behind the arc.
• Monday marked the first of two games between the Hawks and Explorers this year as the two teams will meet again on February 5 at Hagan Arena.
• The February 5 matchup between Saint Joseph's and La Salle will count toward the Big 5 standings.
• Monday's game was the third straight year the Hawks and Explorers have faced each other in a special Martin Luther King, Jr. Day matchup.
