ELMONT, N.Y. – Behind a 29-0 run that spanned both halves, Saint Joseph's men's basketball earned its sixth consecutive win as the Hawks downed Iona, 83-58, Saturday evening in the final game of the Holiday Hoopfest at UBS Arena.
Erik Reynolds II, who led all scorers with a game-high 26 points and added four assists and four rebounds, was named the Holiday Hoopfest Most Outstanding Player of the Game.
How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's opened a 14-9 lead on a
Cameron Brown three-pointer seven minutes into the contest.
• A put-back layup by Brown capped an 11-0 run for the Hawks as they pushed the advantage to 29-16 with 4:42 remaining in the first half.
• Sparked by a Brown three-pointer, St. Joe's ended the first half on an 11-0 run to enter halftime up 45-22.
• The Hawks carried the momentum into the second half, scoring the first 10 points to take a 55-22 lead on a three-pointer by Reynolds II just over two minutes into the period.
• Saint Joseph's opened its biggest lead of the game, 63-23, on a three-pointer by Reynolds II.
• The Hawks maintained a comfortable lead from there as they earned their sixth consecutive victory for the first time since the 2015-16 season (1/10/16-1/30/16).
