DAVIDSON, N.C. – A free throw with one second remaining proved to be the difference as Saint Joseph's fell at Davidson, 76-75, on Saturday afternoon at Belk Arena.
How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's used a 7-0 run to break an early 10-10 tie as a layup by
Lynn Greer III made it 17-10 at 13:51.
• The Wildcats cut the Hawks' lead to one, 22-21, on a free throw by Sam Mennenga.
• St. Joe's responded with five straight points as a dunk by
Rasheer Fleming pushed the Hawks ahead 27-21.
• The Hawks opened a 10-point advantage, 35-25, but Davidson closed the opening half on an 11-4 run to make it 39-36 after 20 minutes.
• Ahead 43-41, Saint Joseph's scored seven straight points to open a 50-41 lead on a layup by
Cameron Brown less than three minutes into the second half.
• A 13-5 run by Davidson cut the Hawks' lead to 57-56 with 9:13 to play.
• A three-pointer by Brown extended St. Joe's edge to 62-58, but the Wildcats responded with a 9-0 run to jump ahead 67-62 with 5:42 remaining.
• A pair of free throws by Fleming capped a 7-1 run by the Hawks as they retook the lead, 69-68.
• Five straight points by the Wildcats put Davidson back in front, 73-69, but Saint Joseph's battled back to tie it, 73-73, on a layup by
Ejike Obinna with 1:13 left.
• A pair of free throws by Mennenga put Davidson ahead 75-73.
• The Hawks couldn't convert on their next offensive possession, but caused a Davidson turnover with :28 to go.
• Off the turnover, Saint Joseph's attacked inside as Fleming scored in the paint to tie it at 75-75.
• With the final seconds ticking away, a shot by Davidson's Desmond Watson missed the mark, but Mennenga snagged the offensive rebound and went to the line for the decisive point following a late whistle.
