Baseball Falls at Saint Louis, 10-6

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Saint Louis, 10-6, at the Billiken Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Louis (21-11 overall, 7-1 Atlantic 10) took an early lead, putting three on the board in the bottom of the first.
 
• The Hawks answered in the top of the third as Ryan Picollo hit into a fielder's choice that brought home Ryan Weingartner.
 
• The Billikens would break the game open with five in the fourth, including a grand slam by Cam Redding.
 
• Saint Joseph's (12-18 overall, 4-4 Atlantic 10) cut into the margin in the sixth.  Ryan Cesarini led off with a single and eventually scored on a single by Weingartner.  Two batters later, Luke Zimmerman notched an RBI groundout that score Nate Thomas before Weingartner came in on a single by Picollo to make it an 8-4 game.
 
• SLU added to the lead in the bottom of the frame, but the Hawks would get within three in the eighth on a two-run single by Luca Trigiani.
 
• Cam Redding led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run to close out the scoring.
 
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Owen Chaffin allowed four runs on five hits in five-plus innings to earn the win, while Jack Weber tossed four innings of relief for the save.  Ryan DeSanto was charged with five earned runs on seven hits in three-plus innings for his first loss of the season.
 
• Picollo and Trigiani both drove in a pair of runs for the Hawks, while Thomas and Weingartner each scored twice.  Cesarini and Weingartner recorded two hits apiece as well.
 
• Redding went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and six driven in to lead both teams in all three categories.

The teams will wrap up the series on Sunday.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
