MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to VCU at Smithson Field on Sunday by a final score of 11-7 in the finale of the teams' three-game weekend set.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (12-15 overall, 4-2 Atlantic 10) took the lead in the bottom of the third after the VCU infield lost a fly ball off the bat of
Ryan Cesarini with two outs in the inning.Â
Ryan Picollo came in to score from second to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Ryan Weingartner led off the fourth with a solo home run over the scoreboard in left center to double the advantage.

• The Hawks would double the lead once again in the fifth as a Cesarini triple scored
Conlan Wall and a single by
Nate Thomas brought home Cesarini.

• A two-out double by Wall and a single by Cesarini in the sixth extended the lead to 5-0.
Â
• VCU (17-15 overall, 3-3 Atlantic 10) came alive in the seventh, posting a six-run frame capped off by a go-ahead grand slam by Will Bean. The Rams then added two more in the eighth and three in the ninth.

• SJU plated two in the ninth on another single by Thomas and a wild pitch to set the final margin.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Campbell Ellis was credited with the win for the Rams after allowing six runs on nine hits in five innings of relief.Â
Patrick Shearer took the loss after being charged four runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Domenic Picone turned in a strong start for the Hawks, scattering three hits and striking out four in six shutout innings. Justin Humenay started for VCU and allowed a run on two hits in three innings.

• Cesarini went 4-for-5 on the day with two runs scored and three driven in, while Wall scored three runs to go with his two hits. Picollo was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles.

• Thomas finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in; the single in the ninth marked the 200
th hit of his collegiate career, placing him in a tie for 13
th in program history with Tom Gibson (1998-2001).
