Hawks Edge George Mason, 75-73

Saint Joseph's Xzayvier Brown scored 11 of his team-high 16 points in the second half as the Hawks' edged past George Mason, 75-73, on Wednesday evening at Hagan Arena.

How It Happened
• In a back-and-forth contest that featured 20 lead changes and 10 ties, George Mason opened a 15-12 edge on basket by Amari Kelly midway through the first half.
• Saint Joseph's responded with a 7-0 run as a Cameron Brown free throw made it 19-15 in favor of the Hawks.
• The Patriots opened their biggest lead of the half, 32-27, on a Baraka Okojie free throw with 2:53 to go in the half. 
• Cameron Brown scored seven straight points to close the period and give the Hawks a 34-32 edge at halftime.
• Saint Joseph's built a 39-34 lead on a layup by Lynn Greer III less than two minutes into the second half. 
• The lead would change hands seven times over the next 14 minutes as George Mason opened a 65-61 advantage on a Keyshawn Hall basket with 4:58 to play.
• Greer III capped a quick 5-0 run by the Hawks as he gave Saint Joseph's the lead again, 66-65.
• Jared Billups put the Patriots back ahead, 67-66, with 3:33 to play.
• A driving layup by Xzayvier Brown sparked a 7-0 run, with Christ Essandoko giving Saint Joseph's a 72-67 lead with 1:12 remaining on a layup.
• George Mason cut its deficit to two, 72-70, and after a defensive stop, got the ball back with 21 seconds remaining.
• On the ensuing possession, Hall attempted a go-ahead three-pointer, only to miss as Essandoko grabbed the rebound and was fouled with :05.9 to play.
• Essandoko connected on both ends of the one-and-one to extend the lead to 74-70.
• A quick three-pointer by Okojie cut the Hawks' lead to 74-73 with just over seconds remaining.
• Off the in-bounds pass, Erik Reynolds II was fouled and made the first free throw, before missing the second, as the Patriots failed to get a last-second shot off as time expired.

• Xzayvier Brown added four assists and four steals to go with his 16 points.
• Rasheer Fleming finished a rebound shy of a double-double as he scored 13 points and grabbed nine boards on the night.
• Reynolds II and Cameron Brown scored 14 points and 11 points, respectively.
• Reynolds II extended his streak of scoring in double figures to 38 games.
• Essandoko grabbed a season-best 15 rebounds, matched his season-high with three blocked shots, and scored six points.
