#5 Field Hockey Shuts Out Saint Louis, 1-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A second-quarter goal from Lily Santi provided the offense as the Saint Joseph's field hockey held off Saint Louis, 1-0, at the SLU Field Hockey Complex on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (14-2 overall, 5-1 Atlantic 10) turned in a dominant first quarter but couldn't turn it into a goal despite a 9-0 shot advantage and four penalty corners.

• Midway through the second quarter, the Hawks hit paydirt on their lone corner of the frame.  Santi inserted and drifted to the post before deflecting a ball from Julia Duffhuis into the cage for a 1-0 lead.

• The Hawks collected six shots and five corners in the third quarter, but Saint Louis (1-11 overall, 0-6 Atlantic 10) stayed in the game thanks to a herculean effort from goalkeeper Abby Schalow, who made four saves in the stanza.

• The hosts had an opportunity with eight and a half minutes to go in the fourth as Shaya Dry found herself in on goal, but Marith Bijkerk came up with a huge save to preserve the lead and with it, the victory.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Bijkerk made one save on the day while Schalow had 12 saves, the most for a Hawk opponent this season.

• Santi's goal was the 50th of her career, making her the fourth Hawk in program history to cross that threshold after Anna Willocks (77), Linda Buonanno (67), and Nicole Antonini (52).

• The Hawks outshot the Billikens 22-2 on Friday and earned 13 corners while conceding just two.

• Just one of the Billikens' two shots made it in on goal, and it came midway through the fourth quarter.  That ended a streak of 182 minutes and 46 seconds between shots on goal allowed by the Hawks, dating back to the October 13 win at Virginia.

• The win is the 46th for head coach Hannah Prince, moving her into third place on the Hawks' all-time list.
