MERION STATION, Pa. – The fifth-ranked Saint Josephs' field hockey team fell in overtime on Sunday to #11 Harvard, 2-1, at Ellen Ryan Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Harvard (12-3) opened the scoring with six minutes to go in the first quarter, with a long ball coming into the circle being tipped home by Lucy Leel.
 
 • The teams combined for just four shots over the second and third quarters as a cagey matchup between two top-tier teams unfolded.
 
• Saint Joseph's (14-3) pushed for an equalizer in the fourth and earned a penalty corner with about six minutes to go; after an initial save from Tessa Shahbo, the Hawks were awarded a penalty stroke due to an illegal touch on the goal line.
 
• 
Julia Duffhuis converted on the attempt to tie the game.  
Manu Ghigliotti then had a shot fizz just wide in the final five minutes and the game would go to overtime at 1-1.
 
• The Hawks earned another corner two minutes into the extra frame but couldn't turn it into a goal.  Three minutes later, Leel beat the defense to a loose ball and shot high into the cage for the game-winner.
 
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Shahbo made three saves on the day for the Crimson, while 
Marith Bijkerk made two big stops in the fourth quarter to keep the Hawks in the game.
 
• SJU outshot Harvard 7-6 in the game and held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.
 
• Prior to the game, the Hawks honored graduating seniors 
Lanie Stem, 
Marith Bijkerk, and 
Sol Borensztein in the annual Senior Day ceremony.
