Katie Cappelletti registered a game-high nine saves as the Hawks earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw at #20 Saint Louis on Thursday evening.
How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's opened the match with the first scoring opportunity, but a shot by
Emily Hanrahan was turned away.
• The Billikens quickly gained momentum, and after six scoring chances, Emily Gaebe broke through with a goal at 15:33 to give Saint Louis a 1-0 lead.
• Just over 90 seconds later, Fisher struck for the equalizer on a blast from 30 yards out that deflected off the hands of the Saint Louis goalkeeper and into the net to knot the match at 1-1.
• Saint Louis pressed to retake the lead, but Cappelletti and the Hawks' defense turned away seven more scoring chances by the host Billikens to end the first half.
• In the second frame, Saint Louis controlled the pace of play throughout, launching 13 shots, while holding the Hawks to none.
• Despite the Billikens' constant push, St. Joe's never folded as Cappelletti recorded five saves in the final 45 minutes to preserve the 1-1 tie.Â
