NEWS & NOTES
• Saint Joseph's rides a two-game win streak into the UGK Legends Classic as the Hawks are coming off wins over Big 5 rivals Villanova (83-76) and Penn (86-69) last week.
• With its win at Penn on Friday, St. Joe's secured a spot in the 2024 Toyota Big 5 Classic title game on December 7 at the Wells Fargo Center versus either La Salle or Temple.
• The Hawks are now to 137-120 all-time in the Big 5 and have captured 21 titles, including last year's inaugural Big 5 Classic crown.
• Erik Reynolds II, Rasheer Fleming and Derek Simpson each scored 15 points apiece to lead five Hawks in double figures in their 86-69 win over Penn.
• Freshman Steven Solano added a season-best 11 points to go with four rebounds and a blocked shot.
• Xzayvier Brown was named Big 5 Player of the Week on Monday as the sophomore averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game in Saint Joseph's two wins.
• Brown enters the UGK Legends Classic leading the Hawks in scoring (16.8 ppg), assists (25) and steals (six), and is also averaging 6.3 points per game from the foul line.
• St. Joe's returned seven letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's squad that went 21-14 overall, captured the inaugural Big 5 Classic title and earned a NIT bid.
• Despite returning seven letterwinners, the Hawks have one of the youngest rosters in the country with just one senior (Reynolds II) and one graduate student (Justice Ajogbor), and the other 85.7 percent consisting of freshmen (six), sophomores (four) and juniors (two).
THE HAWKS VERSUS THE UGK LEGENDS CLASSIC FIELD
• Saint Joseph's opens play in the UGK Legends Classic on Thursday against Texas Tech.
• The Hawks are 2-0 all-time versus the Red Raiders with their most recent win, 70-65, coming in the Second Round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament in Buffalo, New York. Jameer Nelson led all scorers with 24 points, while current St. Joe's assistant coach Dwayne Jones grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in that game.
• St. Joe's is 0-4 all-time against Texas and 4-4 all-time against Syracuse.
• The Hawks' previous meeting with Texas came in the opening round of the 2008 EA Sports Maui Invitational in which the sixth-ranked Longhorns won, 68-50.
• While Saint Joseph's is 4-4 all-time versus Syracuse, the Hawks last win came on December 5, 1981 (59-57), with the Orange winning the most recent matchup, 72-69, in the NIT Tipoff on November 13, 2007.
