Baseball Announces 2025 Schedule

12/24/2024 9:00:00 AM

Saint Joseph's baseball head coach Fritz Hamburg has announced the squad's 2025 schedule, a slate that features a number of local non-conference matchups to go along with early season matchups against Power 4 programs and a new-look conference schedule.

In a significant change, this season marks the first in which the Atlantic 10 schedule consists of 10 three-game series, giving each team 30 conference games as opposed to 24 in recent years.

"I'm excited for the new 10-weekend series change in the A-10," Hamburg said.  "As a collective group, our A-10 coaches all feel that this will bring better balance and clarity to the final standings.  Every year, teams have battled not just to the last weekend but to the final day.  We've missed three, sometimes four opponents by playing fewer conference weekends and it makes a big difference on how the final standings look and who gets into the A-10 Championship."

The Hawks will kick off the campaign at Coastal Carolina with a game against the Chanticleers on Friday, February 14.  They will also meet Washington twice and Kansas State once over the course of four days in South Carolina.

The following weekend sees a pair of games at Mount St. Mary's before the home opener at Smithson Field against the Mountaineers on Sunday, February 23.

A midweek game at Rutgers is followed by a road doubleheader at Bucknell on March 1 before a return home game against the Bison on March 2.  The Hawks will then visit Rider two days later before hosting Seton Hall on March 7 and 8 and visiting the Pirates on March 9.  A home game on March 11 against Lehigh sets the stage for the conference slate.

"We are excited to get the season underway," Hamburg said.  "This 2025 team will be challenged right from the first pitch.  It's great to have the opportunity to compete against the likes of Coastal Carolina, Kansas State and Washington.  That opening weekend will be a measuring stick to see where we are as a group and where our focus will turn moving forward. Weeks two through four will pit us against regional teams which will be good; cold, but good!"

The Hawks will open the A-10 schedule at Saint Louis on March 14 before returning home for a midweek game against Delaware; Richmond then visits Hawk Hill starting on March 21 for SJU's first home conference series.

The Liberty Bell Classic opens up with the Hawks traveling to Penn on March 25 before visiting VCU three days later.  The second round of the LBC will see the Hawks host either Delaware or Lafayette on April 1 before a road trip to St. Bonaventure on April 4.

Beginning on April 11, the Hawks will play 10 of 11 games at home, including three-game series with Fordham (April 11-13), Davidson (April 17-19), and Dayton (April 25-27).  Sandwiched between the latter two series is a game at Delaware on April 22, while a matchup with Villanova closes out the stretch.

May begins with a pair of conference series around the nation's capital as the Hawks head to the Washington, D.C., area to take on both George Mason (May 2-4) and George Washington (May 9-11).  A visit to Villanova on May 13 closes out the road portion of the schedule before a home series with Rhode Island May 15-17 ends the regular season.

The Atlantic 10 Championship once again returns to Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia, beginning on Tuesday, May 20, with a champion scheduled to be crowned on Saturday, May 24.

"Our focus for the season will be a game-to-game approach," Hamburg said.  "With 23 new players, it isn't about who we are playing but how we are competing as a group and where our improvements are each day, each series, and each week.  We are looking forward to the journey this year and the challenge presented to us to be the very best ball club we can be."
