Fleming Posts Career-High Scoring Mark Against Princeton

PHILADELPHIARasheer Fleming scored a career-high 25 points, but the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team was upended 77-69 by the Princeton Tigers on Tuesday evening.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Fleming added seven boards, a block and a steal. He shot 8-for-12 from the floor and was 6-for-7 from the line.
  • Xzayvier Brown had his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Derek Simpson had 13 points, his fourth double digit scoring game of the season, adding six assists.
  • Dasear Haskins contributed with six points and six rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Princeton got off to a hot start from the floor, connecting on nine of its first 17 shots as the Tigers held a 25-20 lead with 11:18 to go in the first half. Six different players scored in the opening eight minutes for SJU, helping to keep the Hawks in the contest.
  • Down by as many as 12 in the half, the Hawks battled back, ending the stanza on a 14-7 run, capped by a Fleming three-pointer to go into the break trailing just 41-36.
  • St. Joe's got the second half to a good start as Brown hit a trey 21 seconds in. The Hawks continued to battle, not letting the Tigers extend past a five point lead for the next nine minutes.
  • A three-pointer by Anthony Finkley continued the push, slicing the lead to 52-51 at the 11:52 mark before a steal and score by Fleming gave Saint Joseph's its first lead since the opening possession of the game 36 seconds later.
  • After extending the advantage to three, SJU went cold as Princeton went on a 9-2 run in a span of three minutes.
  • The Hawks were able to cut the lead to 63-62 on a Fleming free throw with 4:32 to play, but the Tigers were able to pull away in the waning moments.

The Hawks play for their second consecutive Big 5 title when they take on La Salle in the Big 5 Classic at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, December 7. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
