Hawks Hold Off George Mason To Advance At A-10 Championship

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Saint Joseph's Cameron Brown scored a team-high 16 points as the ninth seeded Hawks held off eighth seed George Mason, 64-57, in the Second Round of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Barclays Center.

With the victory, Saint Joseph's advances to face top seed Richmond on Thursday in the Quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m. and will be televised on USA Network.

How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's ran out to a 11-2 lead, capped by a fastbreak basket from Lynn Greer III.
• Four straight points for George Mason brought the Patriots to within 11-6 on a Baraka Okojie basket.
• The Hawks extended their lead to 12, 18-6, on a basket by Xzayvier Brown.
• Saint Joseph's opened its biggest lead of the half, 23-10, on a Rasheer Fleming three-pointer at 8:12.
• George Mason cut the Hawks' lead to seven, but St. Joe's pushed its advantage to 33-24 at halftime.
• Cameron Brown and Erik Reynolds II connected on three-pointers to open the second half and put the Hawks ahead 39-24.
• Saint Joseph's opened an 18-point advantage, 44-26 on a Cameron Brown jumper.
• Seven straight points from George Mason made it 46-35 on an Okojie basket at 12:23.
• The Hawks upped its lead to 14, but an 8-0 run from the Patriots made it 51-45 on a layup by Darius Maddox at 7:39.
• A three-pointer by Greer III built St. Joe's lead back to 11, 60-49, with 4:05 to play.
• George Mason responded with an 8-0 run as Okojie closed the Patriots' deficit to 60-57 on a bucket with 1:25 left.
• After empty possessions by both teams, Saint Joseph's worked the clock down as Xzayvier Brown looked to extend the lead on a shot with 12 seconds remaining.
• The ball glanced off the rim, but Fleming grabbed the offensive rebounds and was fouled.
• Fleming connected on both ends of a one-and-one, and following a defensive stop, Reynolds II wrapped up the victory with two free throws in the final seconds.

• With 16 points on the afternoon, Cameron Brown became the 20th Hawk to reach 1,500 career points as he upped his total to 1,513.
• Fourteen of Brown's 16 points came in the second half.
• Fleming finished with a team-best eight rebounds and three blocks, and added 14 points.
• Greer III handed out a game-high five assists and scored 13 points.
• Xzayvier Brown was the fourth Hawk in double figures, scoring 10 points to go with five boards, two assists and two steals.
• Reynolds II finished with nine points, including a pair of three pointers to become the fourth Hawk in program history to reach 100 three-pointers in a year as he increased his season tally to 101.
• For the second straight year, the Hawks have advanced to the Quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship.
• This season marks the first time since 2015-16 that Saint Joseph's has won 20 games as they improved to 20-12.
