MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team nabbed a win in its first intra-conference match of the season, topping George Mason, 4-1, at the SJU Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hawks started off on the front foot, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Ireland Amato and
Sophia Amato cruised to a 6-1 win in the second flight before
Fabiana Tort-Umpierre and
Victoria Tracey were 6-4 winners in the first to clinch the point.
Charlotte Kordonowy and
Brooke Tackett polished off the sweep with a 6-2 win in the third flight.
• Tracey got things started in singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the first flight. After George Mason got on the board in the third flight,
Ireland Amato won in the sixth after a retirement.
• Kordonowy clinched the victory with a 7-5, 7-5 result in the fourth flight.

"It was a much needed and great team win for the team today," head coach
Jeff Puhan said. "We got started strong with the doubles point and another great performance from Victoria at #1. The team handled the conditions well, and now another Atlantic 10 foe awaits on Sunday."
