Saint Joseph's Men's Basketball Head Coach Billy Lange has announced that Derek Simpson has enrolled on Hawk Hill for the 2024-25 season.

A native of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, Simpson joins the Hawks after spending the past two seasons at Rutgers. While with the Scarlet Knights, Simpson averaged 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game over 66 career contests that included 31 starts. As a sophomore, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 8.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest, and led Rutgers in assists (93) and steals (44).

"We are thrilled to add Derek to our St Joe's Basketball family. We began recruiting Derek and his family in 2019 and we got to know them well. He is a high character person both on and off the floor and he brings a swagger and passion along with a grateful heart," said Lange. "He will provide immediate experience to our team having earned significant minutes the last two years. He is a relentless competitor on both offense and defense and plays with a speed that is impactful."

An All-State selection and 2021 Burlington County Player of the Year at Lenape High School, Simpson averaged 20.6 points-per-game and 4.9 assists-per-game. Capping his high school career as the Indians' all-time scoring leader, Simpson additionally competed for South Jersey Titans in AAU.

"Derek possesses a desire to elevate his own game through hard work and has a servant mindset that will sharpen his teammates," Lange said. "Hawk Hill guards carry a major responsibility to The Story of our program and Derek is ready to make the most of the opportunity!"
