Opening Tip
The Saint Joseph's men's basketball plays its third game in seven days, hosting the Fordham Rams on Tuesday, February 10. Tipoff from Hagan Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game to air on ESPN+.

Keep Climbing
With two more blocks against George Mason on Saturday, Justice Ajogbor increased his margin as the active shot block leader in NCAA D1. His swats against the Patriots give him 240 in his career. Justin Abson of Georgia will enter Wednesday's game at Texas with 230. Ajogbor also moved up the local list, passing Boo Williams (1977-81) for eighth on the Hawks' career list with 143 rejections in a St. Joe's uniform.

Where Things Stand
With seven conference games remaining, Saint Joseph's is 7-4 in A-10 play and currently holds the fourth and final double-bye spot for the conference tournament. The margin is thin, however as Dayton, Duquesne and Davidson all are currently 6-5 in conference. St. Joe's is 2-1 against those teams in head-to-head competition with wins against UD and the Dukes, while still having one game left against the Wildcats. SJU has not earned a double-bye since 2016 when it won the Atlantic 10 championship as a four-seed.

Dynamic Defense
Since January 11, St. Joe's has shown a marked improvement on the defensive end. In the last eight games, opponents are scoring 67.1 points per game, shooting 38.5 percent from the floor overall and 32.2 percent from distance, going 6-2. They have kept five opponents under 65 points in the stretch and one under 60. Rim protection has been key during that time, as the Hawks have blocked 5.8 shots per game. In its first 14 games against Division I competition this season, SJU was 7-7 and was allowing 75.2 points per game with opponents shooting 44.4 percent from the floor.

Knocking It Down From Deep
In the 22 games he has played this season, Jaiden Glover-Toscano has connected on 63 three-pointers, nearly double his next closest teammate. At his current pace of 2.86 treys per game, hr will have 86 through the one game SJU is guaranteed in the conference tournament. That number would rank 10th all-time in a single season on Hawk Hill. As things currently stand, his season is one of 40 in St. Joe's history with a player making 63 or more triples, a feat that has been accomplished by 21 Hawks. Overall, he is second in the A-10 and is inside the top-90 in NCAA D1 in both total three-pointers made and three-pointers made per game.

Nationally Speaking
Glover-Toscano isn't the only St. Joe's player who appears on the national leaderboards. Justice Ajogbor is once again in the top-15 nationally in blocked shots (57) and blocks per game (2.38), ranking 14th in both categories. Derek Simpson is 78th in total assists (113) and 85th in assists per game (4.7). As a team, the Hawks are inside the top-20 in blocks per game (18th - 5.1) and fewest fouls a contest (13th - 14.4).

Making His Case
With a pair of conference Rookie of the Week awards and a Big 5 Rookie of the Week honor, Austin Williford is making his bid for the A-10 All-Rookie Team...and maybe more. Williford is the only freshman in the conference who is averaging at least 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game this season. He is also one of only 26 players nationally who are listed as a guard on their team roster to meet those benchmarks. Among Atlantic 10 freshmen, he is fifth in scoring (7.0), second in total rebounds (106) and first in steals (32).

Home Sweet Hagan
Even with its improved road play, there's nothing for SJU like lacing it up at Hagan Arena. The Hawks are 157-88, a winning percentage of .641 in Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena. The games have been particularly good since the beginning of the 2023-24 season with the Hawks going 37-10 (.787). The 27 victories from 2023-25 are the most in a two-year stretch since the building was renovated and renamed Hagan Arena in 2009.

Scouting Report
  • Fordham enters play 12-12 overall with a 3-8 mark in the A-10, following a 70-67 loss against St. Bonaventure on Saturday. The Rams are one of four teams tied at 3-8 in conference for the final spot to not have to play in the First Round of the Atlantic 10 Championship next month.
  • The top scorer in the A-10, Dejour Reeves leads the Rams offense at 17.3 points per game and has scored in double figures in all 23 games he has played this year, topping 20 on six occasions. Also averaging more than 10 points a contest are Christian Henry (11.0) and Rikus Schulte (10.5). Schulte is close to a double-double nightly with 9.3 rebounds an outing, second in the conference. Henry tops the team with 116 assists.
  • Fordham plays a lockdown defense that tops the Atlantic 10 and is 17th nationally allowing just 65.1 points per game and holds opponents to 41.9 percent shooting. They also rebound the ball extremely well at 38.3 boards a contest, 38th in NCAA D1.
  • The defense needs to be good as consistent scoring can be hard to come by at times for the Rams who are 297th nationally at 70.9 points an outing. They struggle to shoot from distance, ranking in the bottom-10 of NCAA D1 at 29.1 percent and also don't get to the line much, taking the second fewest free throws in the country at 13.6.
  • Mike Magpayo is in his first year as the head coach at Fordham. In his sixth season as a collegiate lead mentor, he has an overall record of 101-75. He spent the previous five seasons at UC Riverside where he was above .500 every season, had two 20-win campaigns and led the Highlanders to a berth in last season's NIT.

All-Time Series
Tuesday is the 61st all-time meeting between St. Joe's and Fordham in a series that dates to the 1919-20 season, with the Hawks holding a 42-18 advantage. Since the Rams joined the A-10, SJU is 34-5 against them including a 22-game winning streak from January 5, 2000 through January 14, 2015. Saint Joseph's is 7-1 against Fordham at Hagan Arena.

Last Time Against Fordham
Rasheer Fleming scored the 1,000th point of his career as Saint Joseph's opened a close game in the second half to come away with a 90-76 win against Fordham on March 1, 2025. Fleming netted 20 in the game with eight rebounds and four assists. Erik Reynolds II had 17. Anthony Finkley scored 15. Justice Ajogbor blocked five shots. In a close first half, the Hawks led for the first 10 minuted before an 18-4 run by the Rams pushed Fordham on top 39-31 with 6:58 to play in the frame. SJU closed the opening stanza on a 10-2 run, to trail by two at the break. St. Joe's started off hot in the second half, scoring the first eight points and 18 of the first 24 to go up 63-53 at the 12:36 mark. From that point, SJU never led by less than eight points the rest of the way.

Next Up
With Tuesday's game concluding a stretch of three games in seven days, the Hawks get a break as they do no play again until February 18 when they travel to St. Bonaventure. Tipoff from the Reilly Center in Olean, N.Y. is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game to air on ESPN+.
