KINGSTON, R.I. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team never trailed on Sunday, scoring seven runs in the final two innings to top Rhode Island, 11-3, in the finale of a weekend series between the teams at Bill Beck Field.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (13-18 overall, 4-5 Atlantic 10) opened the scoring in the second. After walks to
Tim Dickinson and
Justin Igoe, a single by
Brandon Drapeau plated Dickinson and put the Hawks on top.Â
Max Hitman followed with a walk to load the bases before
Conlan Wall drew another free pass to score Igoe and double the lead.
Â
•
Owen Petrich hit a one-out single in the third inning and moved up to second on a wild pitch; Igoe then lofted a single to left center to bring home Petrich and make it a 3-0 game.
Â
• Rhode Island (11-18 overall, 4-5 Atlantic 10) got on the board through a sacrifice fly by DJ Perron in the bottom of the fourth, but
Ryan Weingartner led off the fifth with a triple and scored on a double by Dickinson to restore the three-run advantage before the Rams got one back on a groundout by Eric Genther in the seventh.
Â
• The Hawks added some breathing room in the eighth. Igoe walked before Hitman reached on a two-out error; Wall followed with a double to score Igoe and push the lead to 5-2. Two batters later, Weingartner added a two-run single to make it a 7-2 game.
Â
• URI plated one on a groundout by Reece Moroney in the eighth, but the Hawks put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth. Dickinson and
Ryan Picollo drew walks before a single by Hitman and doubles from Wall and
Ryan Cesarini set the final margin.
