Heartbreak for Baseball in Series Finale at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – Despite a late rally, the Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to UMass, 10-9, on a walk-off home run at Earl Lorden Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (17-22 overall, 6-9 Atlantic 10) took the lead in the top of the third on a Ryan Weingartner solo home run.

• UMass (18-22 overall, 8-7 Atlantic 10) equalized in the fourth on a solo home run by Kevin Skagerlind and then took a big lead in the fifth, plating six runs on a three-run home run by Michael Toth and singles by Austin Burgess and Carter Hanson.

• The Hawks began to claw back into the game in the sixth on a solo home run by Luke Zimmerman before a Ryan Cesarini single in the seventh set up Weingartner's second longball of the day, a two-run shot to make it 7-4.

• The Minutemen added a pair in the bottom of the seventh, but the Hawks rallied for five in the eighth.  Conlan Wall hit a two-out double to score Ryan Picollo and Colin Myers to cut the deficit back down to three before Cesarini beat out an infield single that allowed Wall to score.  Weingartner then followed with a single of his own before Owen Petrich and Justin Igoe hit consecutive RBI singles to tie the game at 9-9.

• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Mike Gervasi hit a one-out walk-off home run in the ninth to win it for UMass.
