MERION STATION, Pa. – A dominant second half and a pair of two-goal performances from
Erika Culp and
Julia Duffhuis led the 13
th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team past Penn, 5-1, at Ellen Ryan Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team recorded a shot in a cagey opening stanza, but Culp got the scoring started early in the second quarter, tipping a ball from Ghigliotti into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

• Penn (1-3) equalized later in the frame as Darcey Chapman converted a penalty corner opportunity to send the game into halftime at 1-1.

• Saint Joseph's (5-1) took control in the second half as Duffhuis converted on a pair of corners 90 seconds apart to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead.

Celeste Smits pushed the lead to 4-1, tipping a ball from
Lily Santi home on a penalty corner with no time left on the clock in the third quarter.

• Culp and Ghigliotti connected again on a mirror image of their second-quarter goal midway through the fourth, as Ghigliotti sent a ball goalward from just inside the circle and Culp slammed it home for the exclamation point on a four-goal second half.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The Hawks outshot the Quakers, 10-3, and also held a 6-3 advantage in penalty corner chances.

• Ruby de Frees made one save for the Quakers in defeat, while
Marith Bijkerk earned the win for the Hawks.

• Culp and Duffhuis collected four points, while Smits added an assist for three points on the day. Ghigliotti and Santi chipped in with two assists apiece.
