Saint Joseph's forward
Manu Ghigliotti has been named one of four finalists for the prestigious Honda Sport Award for Field Hockey, it was announced on Thursday afternoon.
Â
The Honda Sport Award has been awarded for nearly half a century by The Collegiate Women Sports Awards, recognizing the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports. Finalists are chosen by a panel of experts and coaches from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association; the recipient of the award becomes a finalist for the Honda Cup, awarded to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year on CBS Sports Network in June.
Â
Ghigliotti is the second Hawk to be a finalist for a Honda Sport Award; all-time field hockey great Anna Willocks '19 was previously among the finalists in 2019.
Â
Hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ghigliotti helped lead the Hawks to the national championship game and was named to the NFHCA All-America First Team, becoming the first Hawk to receive multiple First Team accolades. She was also named the NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year this season, marking the first time a Hawk has ever claimed that honor as well.
Â
A four-time All-Region honoree who was named to the First Team for the third time last month, Ghigliotti also earned NCAA All-Tournament accolades after she scored both goals in the Hawks' 2-1 win over top-ranked and previously unbeaten North Carolina in the national semifinals. She also earned her fourth consecutive First Team All-Atlantic 10 honor this season, becoming the fourth Hawk to earn four First Team accolades in her career.
Â
Ghigliotti joins Sophia Gladieux of Penn State, Ryleigh Heck of North Carolina, and Maddie Zimmer of Northwestern as finalists for the award. Voting is conducted among the senior woman administrators of each NCAA institution.
