PHILADELPHIA – Four players scored in double figures, but the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team was upended, 68-62, by the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Monday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Derek Simpson led the Hawks with 18 points in the contest, adding eight rebounds and two steals.
- Dasear Haskins scored 13 and pulled in a team-high nine rebounds.
- Khaafiq Myers posted a personal best in points for a second consecutive game, tallying 12.
- Anthony Finkley had 10 points and led St. Joe's with five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- For a second consecutive game, the Hawks got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 12-2 lead just five minutes into the contest. The Chanticleers cut into the lead during the next four minutes, pulling to within a point at the 11:52 mark.
- Coastal Carolina continued to push forward, going 7-for-13 in the final eight minutes. After CCU went up 30-23, back-to-back floaters from Myers pulled SJU back to a three-point game before the Chanticleers took a 32-27 lead into the locker room.
- The game remained a five-point tilt for the opening of the second half before Saint Joseph's went on a 9-2 run, knotting the contest at 45-45 with 12:04 to play.
- The Chanticleers once again forged ahead, but SJU cut the advantage to a pair on a ferocious dunk from Justice Ajogbor, making it 57-55 with just over five minutes remaining. Coastal Carolina then scored seven of the next eight points and held on through the final whistle.
