HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 65-60 with 1:52 to play, Jones took the game over. He made a driving layup. After a Temple basket, Jones drilled a three, slicing the advantage to 67-65. He then tied the contest on a layup with 33 seconds left. The Owls subsequently made a pair of free throws, taking a 69-67 lead with 15 ticks remaining on the clock.
- Getting the ball into the frontcourt, Saint Joseph's called timeout with seven seconds left. The ball was inbounded to Finkley who handed to Jones. The sophomore guard crossed over his defender, gave a pump fake and released the ball just before the red lights came on the backboard. After a review, the three-pointer was confirmed, lifting St. Joe's to the win.
- Defense was the story of the opening five minutes of the contest, as each team began 2-for-7 from the floor. Ajogbor was a big part of the Hawks' "D" with a pair of blocks in the opening minute of the contest.
- SJU was the first team to go on a run. Trailing 12-10 after a pair of free throws, St. Joe's went on a 12-0 spurt, connecting on 5-of-7 shots, taking a 22-12 lead at the eight-minute mark, forcing a Temple timeout.
- The Owls battled back, but Saint Joseph's never relinquished the lead. Holding onto a one-point advantage, SJU closed the half on an 11-4 run, taking a 33-25 lead at the break.
- Opening the second frame, St. Joe's got into early foul trouble as Temple took six free throws in the first four-plus minutes of the half, enabling the Owls to take a 40-37 lead at the 14:42 mark.
- Undeterred, Finkley started to heat up, hitting consecutive triples and sinking a pair of free throws, scoring all of the points for the Hawks in an 8-2 run.
