Hawks Hit 15 Threes in Win Against Richmond

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team knocked down 15 three-pointers as the Hawks defeated the Richmond Spiders 78-62 on Saturday afternoon.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Erik Reynolds II connected for seven treys in the game, setting a career-high. He had posted six triples on nine occasions. The senior ended the night with 25 points.
  • Rasheer Fleming scored 23 in the contest and had six rebounds. He delivered a personal best tying four three-pointers for the second consecutive game.
  • Xzayvier Brown netted 15 with five rebounds and dished seven assists against no turnovers.
  • Anthony Finkley scored eight and pulled in a career-best eight rebounds.
  • It is the third time this season SJU has hit 15 or more threes in a game
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Spiders scored the first basket of the game, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run, capped by a dazzling court-length pass from Brown to Fleming that ended in an acrobatic layup on the baseline.
  • Richmond came back and scored four in a row before an 8-0 SJU run that included threes from Fleming and Derek Simpson and breakaway steal and score from Shawn Simmons II made it 15-6 and forced a UR timeout.
  • St. Joe's continued to frontrun, going up 29-16 on a three from Reynolds with 8:11 to go in the frame.
  • The Hawks defense in the half was on full display as well, holding the Spiders to a 5-for-23 start from the floor, on the way to a 43-26 lead at intermission.
  • Opening the second stanza, Reynolds caught fire, hitting a trio of treys, accounting for all the scoring in a 9-3 run to open the frame.
  • From there, the closest Richmond came was within 11 before the Hawks pulled away at the end. 
 
UP NEXT
SJU remains at home for a midweek contest against Saint Bonaventure on Wednesday, February 26. Tipoff from Hagan Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game to be broadcast on ESPN+.
