PHILADELPHIA –
Xzayvier Brown had his fourth double-double of the season as the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team won its third straight, downing the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 75-64 on Wednesday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Brown led all scorers with 22 points and pulled in 10 rebounds, all of them on the defensive glass. He also added three assists.
- Rasheer Fleming delivered 19 points and had six rebounds and three blocks.
- Derek Simpson was also in double figures with 11 points.
- Erik Reynolds II tied a season-high with six assists, chipping in eight points.
- Justice Ajogbor had seven rebounds and three blocks.
- It was the first win for St. Joe's against St. Bonaventure since January 6, 2018.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams got off to a very hot start from the floor as the Hawks made six of their first nine shots. The Bonnies, however, hit seven of their first 10 and held a 14-12 lead six minutes into the contest.
- St. Bonaventure extended the lead to eight before an 8-0 run for Saint Joseph's, keyed by threes from Dasear Haskins and Anthony Finkley knotted the contest at 20-20 at the 8:46 mark.
- The pattern continued as SBU would pull ahead before the Hawks would come back. As the half wound down, the last bucket went to St. Joe's as a jumper by Brown knotted the score at 35-35 heading into the break.
- In the second half, the trend reversed as it was the Hawks who pulled out to the short lead before the Bonnies came back.
- Leading 53-49. Saint Joseph's went on a 10-2 run in a span if 3:13, taking a 61-53 lead with 8:39 to play.
- St. Bonaventure quickly got the lead back to single digits and pulled it to a seven-point game with 2:25 to play. They got no closer as a dunk by Fleming and a pair of free throws by Brown sealed the contest.
