WASHINGTON – Saint Joseph's lefthander
Colton Book was named the Atlantic 10's Under Armour Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Â
The southpaw shared the honor with Trystan Levesque of Rhode Island.
Â
Book nearly made program history on Saturday as he was perfect through five innings of a 7-0 win over Mount St. Mary's. After a walk to start the sixth, he notched a pickoff and a pair of strikeouts to carry a no-hitter into the final frame of the seven-inning contest. He fanned one more Mountaineer before giving up his lone hit of the game on a single to left; he retired the next two batters to finish off the one-hit shutout. All told, he struck out 14 batters, one shy of the program record for a single game.
Â
A native of Manheim, Pennsylvania, Book has been outstanding in his first two starts as a Hawk, tossing 13.0 shutout innings and allowing just five base runners while striking out 23 batters. He leads the Atlantic 10 in both innings pitched and strikeouts.
Â
The Hawks return to action Tuesday at Rutgers.
