Baseball Falls in the Ninth at Saint Louis, 3-2

ST. LOUIS – The Saint Joseph's baseball team lost a heartbreaker on Saturday as Saint Louis scored twice in the ninth to top the Hawks, 3-2, at the Billiken Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Louis (9-9 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) went ahead in the bottom of the second on a double by Ethan Sitzman.

• The Hawks answered in the top of the fifth as Joey Pagano led off the inning with a single, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Carson Applegate.

• Saint Joseph's (6-11 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) took the lead in the seventh as a two-out single by Applegate brought home Joey Gale with the go-ahead run.

• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Billikens rallied in the ninth.  Hayden Moore walked to start the inning and went to third on a single by Riley Iffrig two batters later.  Max McGwire followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Moore; two batters later, Sitzman singled up the middle to score Iffrig with the winning run.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Jack Weber came out of the bullpen in the second inning for Saint Louis to replace an injured Ben Cherico and tossed eight innings, allowing two runs on seven hits to earn the win, while Jackson Campbell was charged with two runs on two hits in an inning and two-thirds to take the loss.

• Colton Book was outstanding once again, allowing a run on three hits while striking out 13 in a six-inning no decision.  He retired the final 10 batters he faced, the last six coming on strikeouts.

• Pagano was 4-for-4 with a run scored for the Hawks, while Owen Petrich recorded two hits on the day.  Applegate was 1-for-3 and drove in both SJU runs.
