HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game did not start as St. Joe's would have wanted as the Hawks opened 0-for-8 from the floor while GM started 6-for-8.
- It continued that way through the midway portion of the half as George Mason opened a 25-7 advantage with 9:33 remaining.
- SJU started to make some noise as an 8-2 run, sparked by high energy from Haskins off the bench cut the lead to 12 in just two minutes.
- Eventually Saint Joseph's cut the lead to seven on a three-pointer from Rasheer Fleming before a layup to beat the buzzer from the Patriots sent GM into the locker room up 37-28.
- The Hawks came out for the second half on fire, using a 7-0 run to slice the lead to 37-35 in less than three minutes, forcing a George Mason timeout.
- GM regained its footing, but St. Joe's kept the pressure on, never allowing the lead to get past seven until the seven-minute mark.
- After the Patriots pushed the lead back to 14, SJU had one more run in it, scoring 11 of 13, cutting the gap to 67-62 with 1:06 left. It looked like Saint Joseph's came away with a steal, but on the scramble for the loose ball, a foul was called. GM was able to convert at the line to hold on.
