Women’s Lacrosse Falls in Title Game of A-10 Championship to #25 Massachusetts

Box Score RICHMOND, Va. – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to #25 Massachusetts, 15-4, in the Atlantic 10 Championship title game on Sunday afternoon inside of Robins Stadium.
 
Maddie Yoder, Sarah Groark, Alexa Capozzoli and Jorden Concordia were named to A-10 All-Championship Team as the Hawks' run of six-consecutive victories comes to an end, finishing the season 11-8 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • As they did in the semifinal, Alexa Capozzoli connected a pass to Kate Fuhrman in the opening minutes of the game as the Hawks struck first in the title game.
  • After a quick response from Massachusetts leveled the score, both teams traded possessions over an eight-minute span before the Minutewomen added its second of the game. The top-seeded squad registered a goal under a minute later to help take a 3-1 lead into the end of the quarter.
  • Capozzoli opened the scoring for St. Joe's in the second frame just 48 seconds in, going on her own to beat the goalkeeper through the legs to draw within one.
  • UMass connected with the last two strikes of the half, the teams entering the break with a low-scoring 5-2 contest in favor of the Minutewomen.
  • The teams traded goals in the opening two minutes of the second half, with Riley Miller countering an early strike with a tidy finish to the top left corner.
  • A 7-1 run from the Minutewomen extended the advantage to 13-4 with 9:59 to play, while UMass added two goals in the final 10 minutes to earn a 15-4 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • Maddie Yoder finished her Saint Joseph's career with 162 goals, nine shy of the program record.
  • Alexa Capozzoli finished her record-breaking season with 84 points, including a program record of 57 assists.
  • Both Yoder and Capozzoli finished the season ranked in the top 10 in program history in points.
  • Jorden Concordia finished her storied career with 731 career saves, all four of her seasons recording top-10 marks in saves. Concordia set program records in saves, while also holding the program record for ground balls (175) and wins (46).
  • St. Joe's finished the season with 10+ wins for the eighth-consecutive season.
