Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Heartbreak in Hempstead as Women's Soccer Edged at Final Whistle

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.Emily Hanrahan scored the first Saint Joseph's goal of the year in the 20th minute, but the Hawks were edged out in the final seconds, 2-1 by the Hofstra Pride on Thursday evening.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Hanrahan's goal was the 11th of her career after leading St. Joe's in scoring a season ago.
  • Alli Popham made three saves in her SJU debut.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride had the better of play in the opening 15 minutes, leading to a penalty opportunity, but the attempt went off the right post.
  • Countering, Saint Joseph's won a ball at the top of the offensive third. With the Hofstra keeper coming off her line, Hanrahan settled and chipped the ball over the goalie's reach for a 1-0 SJU lead.
  • After a handful of chances, the Pride leveled the match in the 66th minute on header coming from a free kick.
  • It looked as if the game would end in a draw, but Hofstra scored with seven seconds remaining to claim the win.
