The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team opens the 2025 season on Thursday afternoon, heading on the road to Merrimack for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
The Hawks begin the campaign under new head coach Tim Mulqueen, a 1988 graduate and former standout goalkeeper returning to Hawk Hill for his first season in charge. He is joined on staff by assistant coach
Tim Lazorko '16, entering his second year.
Seventeen newcomers join the roster, including 11 freshmen and six transfers. For more information on the incoming class, click

"Bringing in 17 players gives us a unique opportunity to set a strong foundation and establish our culture from day one," said Mulqueen. "This group is driven and full of energy and I can't wait to hit the ground running."
Despite a heavy influx of youth, Saint Joseph's returns several veterans. Mulqueen named
Luke Johnson,
Glen Lala and
Cassidy Tanddo team captains.
In goal, the Hawks must replace graduate
Lars Haavie, who started 16 matches last fall. Transfers
Cooper Jennings (USC Upstate) and
Xander LaBelle (Denver) join returners
Carter Fitzgerald and
Ryan Moroney. Fitzgerald is the only returning Hawk with game action, earning one start and three appearances in 2024.
The defense brings back three players (
Sean Boyle,
Eishu Nishizono, Tanddo) with at least 10 starts last season.
Kobe Perlaza returns after missing much of 2024 with injury.
In midfield, the Hawks lose Truls Brændvang, the only player to start all 17 games last season, but return contributors
Matteo Mazzotta (2 goals, 2 assists) and Johnson (5 assists). Lala, who shifted into defense last season, is expected to play a key role.
Up front, the Hawks will look to replace the scoring of
Blake Driehuis, who led the team in goals each of the past two seasons. Returning attackers include
Tommaso Rossetto (2 goals, 1 assist),
Patrick Vani (2 goals) and
Oskar Steinicke, who made 15 appearances as a freshman.
Saint Joseph's plays eight home matches this season, including its home opener Aug. 23 against VMI. All home games will be streamed on ESPN+.
