th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team held on for a 1-0 win over American in the Terrapin Invitational at Maryland's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team was able to find the cage in the opening quarter. American (1-3) had two penalty corners in frame, while the Hawks had one, but neither team converted.

• Saint Joseph's (3-1) broke the deadlock with 1:59 to go in the second quarter as
Brooke James tallied her second goal of the season on an assist from
Emily Tammaro on a corner.

• Both teams had chances in the second half, with the Eagles holding a slight edge in shots, but the Hawk defense held strong and SJU was able to maintain enough possession to see out the game.

Paige Kieft saved the only American attempt to make it on cage, while Pauline Gineste made three stops in defeat for the Eagles.
