PHILADELPHIA –
Hannah Prince has announced her resignation as the head coach of the Saint Joseph's field hockey program.
Prince is departing Hawk Hill to become the next head coach at Penn State.
"I am deeply grateful to Saint Joseph's University and to Vice President and Director of Athletics Jill Bodensteiner for trusting me with the opportunity to lead the field hockey program on Hawk Hill over the past four seasons," Prince said. "The student-athletes are truly the heart of this program. This team means more to me than I can put into words, and it has been an honor to coach such a resilient, kind, and committed group. I will miss them tremendously, and will always be proud to be a Hawk. I wish the program nothing but continued success in its next chapter."
"
Hannah Prince took our field hockey program to new heights, and we will forever be grateful for her considerable contributions to Saint Joseph's University," Bodensteiner said. "Hannah is an amazing leader and coach, and was a fabulous colleague. We wish her nothing but the best in her next step."
In four seasons as the head coach at Saint Joseph's, Prince led the Hawks to four consecutive Atlantic 10 championships as well as a pair of regular season titles. The 2024 squad became the first Saint Joseph's team in any sport to play in a national championship game; along the way, the Hawks set a program record with 20 wins, reached a program-best ranking of #3 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll, and hosted NCAA Tournament games at Ellen Ryan Field for the first time.
Prince and her staff were named the NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024, while forward Manu Ghigliotti earned regional Player of the Year honors, the first Hawk to achieve that feat.
During her time as the head coach, four different Hawks earned All-America honors, with both Ghigliotti (2023, 2024) and Lily Santi (2022, 2024) earning multiple selections; Ghigliotti became the first Hawk to earn multiple First Team All-America honors as well. Prince also coached 12 different Hawks to a total of 18 All-Region accolades, while the Hawks claimed five Atlantic 10 Player of the Year awards and 34 All-Conference honors during her tenure. Prince also guided the Hawks to their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory in 2022, and led the Hawks to NCAA Tournament wins in three of her four seasons leading the Crimson and Gray.
Prince also spent two years as an assistant coach in 2017 and 2018, claiming two A-10 regular season and postseason tournament title sweeps and helping guide the Hawks to their first-ever NCAA Tournament berths. She ranks third in program history with 64 coaching victories, and her .727 winning percentage is also third-best in program history.
A national search for the next leader of the Saint Joseph's field hockey program will now begin.
