BRONX, N.Y. –The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team collected its fifth straight win with a 78-49 road win over Fordham on Saturday afternoon inside Rose Hill Gym.
FIRST QUARTER
- Jill Jekot scored the first five points for Saint Joseph's, opening the game with a layup off Faith Stinson's jump ball tip before following up with a corner 3-pointer.
- Rhian Stokes finished off a fastbreak from Gabby Casey to tie the game at 7-7. Fordham responded with a quick 4-0 spurt before Jekot answered with a floater.
- Cecilia Kay scored the final four points of the quarter for the Hawks, leveling the game at 13-13 at the end of the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- As the teams traded baskets to open the quarter, the Rams took a 20-18 lead with 6:22 to play before the Hawks went on a 9-0 run fueled by 3-point shooting.
- Emily Knouse started the spurt with a 3-pointer from the wing before back-to-back 3-pointers from Gabby Casey gave the Hawks a 27-20 lead with 3:43 to play.
- Fordham would end the run with a triple of its own, but back-to-back layups from Stinson and Casey's third 3-pointer of the half with three seconds to play gave the Hawks a 34-23 lead headed into the half.
THIRD QUARTER
- Stinson and Casey combined for six of the first eight points of the quarter, extending the advantage to 15 points.
- An 8-2 run by Fordham cut the Hawk lead to single digits before rare four-point possession following an offensive rebound on an and-one gave breathing room to the visitors after Snead laid in her second basket of the possession.
- The play jumpstarted a 20-4 run to close the quarter, Snead leading five scorers in the stretch with nine points to help give the Hawks a 62-37 lead into the final frame.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Knouse knocked down her third 3-pointer of the game to open the fourth quarter before a pair of free throws from Stinson gave the Hawks their largest lead of the game at 67-37.
- Meja Jägerskog showed some poise under the basket to finish a pair of tough layups midway through the quarter while freshman Kaylinn Bethea scored the final three points of the game to give the Hawks a 78-49 win inside Rose Hill Gym.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gabby Casey led all scorers with 19 points on just six field goal attempts while adding a game-high seven assists, directly accounting for 36 points. The junior guard also led the Hawks with seven rebounds and three steals. Saint Joseph's is 22-5 when Casey scores at least 10 points.
- Aleah Snead finished with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Faith Stinson was the third Hawk to record double figures with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
- Emily Knouse finished with nine points, all five of her field-goal attempts coming from 3-point range. Cecilia Kay scored eight points to go along with six rebounds, while Jill Jekot scored seven points in nine minutes of her abbreviated contest.
- Kaylie Griffin matched a career high with six assists to go along with three steals.
- Saint Joseph's shot 27-for-51 (52.9%) from the field, assisting on 23 of its 27 made baskets. The Hawks finished 7-for-20 (35.0%) from 3-point range and 17-for-25 (68%) from the free throw line.
- The Hawks held Fordham to 19-for-62 (30.6%), the fourth time in the last five games that St. Joe's held an opponent under 32% from the field.
- Saint Joseph's held a 38-36 edge on the glass despite a 17-9 advantage on the offensive glass from Fordham. Despite the 17 offensive rebounds, the Hawks allowed just one second chance point.
- Saint Joseph's held a 26-9 advantage in points off turnovers and a 27-5 advantage in fast break points.
- The five-game win streak is the longest of the season for the Hawks.
- St. Joe's has won two straight games at Rose Hill Gym with an average margin of victory of 28.0 ppg.
