Khaafiq Myers of the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team has been named both the Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Big 5 Rookie of the Week, as announced by the respective organizations on Monday afternoon. It is his first A-10 honor of the season and the second time he is being recognized by the Big 5 in its weekly awards.
Myers posted two of his best games of the season during a 2-0 week for the Hawks, in which he averaged 10.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, while shooting better than 69 percent from the floor. Against George Mason on Wednesday, he went 5-for-6 from the field, including 2-for-2 from three-point range, scoring 12. He also pulled in six rebounds and had six assists without committing a turnover. Against Rhode Island on Saturday, he provided a needed spark off the bench with nine points, a team-high eight rebounds and three assists. He also had two steals and his first career block. Overall for the week, he connected on 9-of-13 shots (69.2 percent) and was 3-for-4 from three-point range.
The Hawks close the regular season with a pair of games, traveling to Davidson on Wednesday before hosting La Salle for Senior Day on Saturday.
