ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Joey Gale doubled in the winning run in the top of the 10th inning as the Saint Joseph's baseball won its fourth in a row with a 3-2 victory over Navy at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium on Thursday.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (12-10) took the lead in the top of the second as
Jason Janesko drew a walk, and
Ben Peterson was hit by a pitch; two batters later, a double steal and a wild pitch scored the first run of the game.
Â
• Navy (15-9) tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a single by Andrew Manning, but the Hawks went right back in front in the third. Gale reached on an error before
Tim Dickinson worked a walk and
Blake Primrose singled to load the bases.Â
Joey Pagano then hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Gale to score and put the Hawks on top, 2-1.
Â
• That's where it would stay until the ninth, when a one-out RBI single by Manning tied the game for the Midshipmen.
Â
•
Eric Cross would then single with one out in the 10th before Gale doubled him home with what turned out to be the winning run.
Â
• The hosts would put the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the frame, but
Sam Greer retired the final two batters to end the game.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Greer allowed a run on two hits while striking out two in three innings to earn the win; Tyler Glenn allowed a run on two hits in one inning to take the loss.
Â
• Greer,
Carson Magill, and
Matt Fitzgibbon combined to strike out 10 while walking none on the day. Magill got the start and fanned six across three innings, while Fitzgibbon allowed two base runners across four shutout innings.
Â
• Gale had two hits on the day, while Dickinson, Primrose, and Janesko each reached base twice.
