MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team ran its winning streak to five games on Wednesday, rallying from a five-run deficit to top Rider, 11-10, at Smithson Field.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rider (12-6) took the lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Erich Hartmann. A two-run single by Nick Shuhet then extended the lead to 3-0.
Â
• Saint Joseph's (13-10) got on the board in the second as
Richard Beggy led off with a single and
Tim Dickinson followed with a long home run to dead center field to make it a 3-2 game.
Â
• The Broncs added a pair in the third on a single by Will Gallagher, but the Hawks got them back in the bottom of the frame after
Joey Pagano walked and
Jason Janesko went deep to right.
Â
• A grand slam from Eliot Medlock in the fourth extended Rider's lead to 9-4, but the Hawks began to claw back into it in the bottom of the frame. A bases-loaded fielder's choice by Janesko plated
Ben Peterson before a two-run single by Dickinson cut it to a 9-7 deficit.
Â
• A solo home run by Peterson and an RBI single by Pagano tied the game in the fifth.
Â
• The Hawks went ahead in the seventh when Peterson led off with a walk and scored on a double by Kelsey, who doubled the margin by scoring on a wild pitch.
Â
• The Broncs scored a run in the ninth on a single by Gallagher, but that would be all as the Hawks secured their fifth consecutive win.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
•
Peter Bashore tossed two shutout innings, striking out four, to earn the win, while
Andrew Gaines earned the save. Alex D'Ambrosio took the loss for Rider.
Â
• Peterson and Dickinson had three hits apiece, while Peterson scored three times; Kelsey, Pagano, and Janesko scored twice each. Dickinson had a four-RBI day, while Janesko drove in three.
